Most clock apps help you wake up, but few ensure you’re truly awake.

What if your alarm wasn’t just a sound but a little nudge to help you start your day on the right foot?

The challenge was clear: How do we design a clock app that not only wakes users up but also prevents them from falling back into the snooze trap?

Problem Statement

Snoozing is a deeply ingrained habit for many users, leading to grogginess and disrupted morning routines. A new approach was needed to make waking up an active and engaging process rather than a passive one.

Objective

Create a clock app with all the standard features (alarms, timers and stopwatch) while adding a gamified wake-up feature to keep users fully engaged before turning off an active alarm.

I started by interviewing 15 users about their morning routines and alarm habits. The key insight? Most users hated waking up to their alarms but wished they had a way to wake up feeling alert and focused.

Inspired by gamification principles, I introduced pre-alarm tasks. The challenge? These tasks needed to be quick, engaging and easy enough to complete when groggy but stimulating enough to wake users up.
